Ambiente Magazine – Renewable Energy Community

The company Cleanwatts will create a Renewable Energy Community with the Atlanticeagle ShipbuildingThe aim of the project, which is located in the former Mondego shipyards in Figueira da Foz, is “sustainability, reducing the environmental impact and energy-related costs of the shipyards, as well as social support to combat energy poverty and families in the region”.

This CER will have its 1035 kW photovoltaic plants distributed over several buildings of the former shipyards, now the AES Naval Shipyard, located on the south bank of the Mondego River. The investment will be provided by Cleanwatts in terms of equipment and installation, while AES will provide the space and infrastructure needed for the installation.

In addition to reducing costs, through this project the shipyards will be able to produce/self-consume the equivalent of 57% of their electricity consumption during the day and will become climate positive, generating 80% more green energy than their total consumption and avoiding 367 tons of CO2 equivalent.

“Through this project, the Atlanticeagle Shipbuilding shipyard will be able to support 708 families, with a community social tariff on average 30% lower than current market tariffs,” says José Basílio Simões, president of Cleanwatts.l.

“It’s in our genes and mission to support society and the community around us, particularly those most in need, and to contribute to energy sustainability, which is increasingly important for the future of the next generations,” said Duarte Sousa, manager of Atlanticeagle, adding that he hopes “to be able to support as many people as possible and contribute to improving the lives of needy families in the region, to decarbonization and energy efficiency.”
